2 tbsp of soy sauce
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 tsp of ginger (minced)
1 tsp of honey
1 tbsp of fish sauce
1 tbsp of vegetable oil
For the pickled vegetables:
1 large carrot (julienned)
1 daikon radish (julienned)
1/4 cup of rice vinegar
1/4 cup of water
2 tbsp of sugar
1 tsp of red chili flakes
1/2 tsp of salt
For the sandwich:
4 Vietnamese baguettes or French baguettes
Mayonnaise
Cilantro
Cucumber (julienned)
Instructions
Step 1: Marinate the beef
To make the beef more flavorful, we will marinate it for at least 30 minutes. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, garlic, ginger, honey, fish sauce, and vegetable oil. Add the sliced beef and make sure it is well coated with the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Pickle the vegetables
In a separate bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, water, sugar, red chili flakes, and salt. Add in the julienned carrots and daikon radish and mix well. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes to allow the vegetables to pickle.
Step 3: Cook the beef
Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add the marinated beef. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until it is browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
Step 4: Assemble the sandwich
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Cut the baguettes in half and spread mayonnaise on one side. Place the sliced beef on top and add a handful of pickled vegetables. Add some julienned cucumber and cilantro on top. Close the sandwich and wrap it in foil. Place it in the oven for 10 minutes to warm up the bread and let all the flavors come together.
Step 5: Enjoy!
Take the sandwiches out of the oven, unwrap them, and enjoy your delicious Vietnamese sub with beef! You can also add some sriracha or hoisin sauce for an extra kick of flavor.
