With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it's time to start planning your holiday feast. One of the main dishes that takes center stage on the Thanksgiving dinner table is the turkey. However, the traditional way of cooking this delicious bird can be time-consuming and intimidating for some. That's why we have created a template for a Thanksgiving turkey recipe that is easy to follow and will surely impress your guests. So put on your apron and let's get cooking!
Gather Your Ingredients
What You'll Need:
1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds)
1 stick of butter, softened
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tablespoon of rosemary, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of sage, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of thyme, finely chopped
2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of black pepper
1 lemon, halved
1 onion, quartered
1 carrot, chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 cup of chicken broth
Instructions:
Before you start preparing the turkey, make sure it is fully thawed and dried. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped herbs, salt, and pepper.
Using your hands, gently loosen the skin of the turkey without tearing it. Spread the herb butter mixture under the skin, making sure to cover the entire bird.
Stuff the cavity of the turkey with the halved lemon, quartered onion, chopped carrot, and celery. This will add more flavor to the meat.
Place the turkey on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
Cover the turkey loosely with foil and roast for 2 hours. After 2 hours, remove the foil and continue roasting for another 1-2 hours or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165°F.
Once done, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes before carving and serving.
Additional Tips:
If your turkey is browning too quickly, cover it with foil to prevent it from burning.
For a crispy skin, baste the turkey with the pan juices every 30 minutes while roasting.
Don't forget to let the turkey rest before carving. This will allow the juices to redistribute and result in a tender and juicy bird.
Now that you have a simple and delicious Thanksgiving turkey recipe template, you can customize it to your liking by adding your own herbs and seasonings. Your family and friends will be impressed by your cooking skills and you can sit back and enjoy the holiday feast together. Happy Thanksgiving!
