Ingredients:

For the Chickpeas:

  • 1 cup dried chickpeas
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp dried fenugreek leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Soak the dried chickpeas in water overnight. Drain the water and rinse the chickpeas before cooking.
  2. In a large pot, add the soaked chickpeas, water, salt, and turmeric powder. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for 45 minutes to an hour, until the chickpeas are tender.
  3. In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and red chili powder to the pan. Stir and cook for a minute.
  5. Add the canned tomatoes to the pan and let it cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Once the chickpeas are cooked, add them to the pan with the butter sauce. Stir to combine everything together.
  7. Add the heavy cream and dried fenugreek leaves to the pan. Let it cook for another 10 minutes.
  8. Season with salt to taste.
  9. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
