1 lb of ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tsp of dried oregano
1 tsp of dried basil
1 tsp of smoked paprika
1 tsp of salt
1/4 tsp of black pepper
1 cup of your favorite marinara sauce
1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 tbsp of water
1 can of black olives, drained and sliced
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the filling
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it is no longer pink.
Add in the chopped onion, minced garlic, oregano, basil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onions are soft and fragrant.
Stir in the marinara sauce and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Assemble the mummy
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a 10x12 inch rectangle.
Spread the beef mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1 inch border around the edges.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the beef mixture.
Carefully fold the edges of the pastry over the filling, creating a border around the edges.
In a small bowl, beat the egg and water together to create an egg wash.
Brush the egg wash over the pastry crust.
Using a sharp knife, make 1 inch cuts along the top of the pastry, leaving a 2 inch space in the middle for the mummy's face.
Place the sliced black olives on the mummy's face to create eyes.
Step 3: Bake and serve
Bake the mummy at 375°F for 20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is heated through.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese over the top of the mummy.
Let cool for 5 minutes, then slice into squares and serve.
