Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the rice

Wash the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and keep the rice aside.

Step 2: Cooking the vegetables

In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add the cumin and coriander seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves, and cardamom pods. Fry for a minute until fragrant.

Add the sliced onions and cook until they turn golden brown.
