Jump to RecipeTo make the dough, combine the flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Make a well in the center and add the olive oil and warm water. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 5 minutes on a floured surface. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a large circle, about ½ inch thick. Spread the tomato sauce over half of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the oregano on top of the sauce.
Next, add the crumbled bacon, sausage, bell peppers, and mushrooms on top of the sauce. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the filling.
Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the edges of the dough with water. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press down on the edges to seal the calzone.
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make the egg wash. Brush the egg wash over the top of the calzone.
Place the calzone on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your Christmas calzone with your loved ones and have a happy holiday season!
