Ingredients
Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
Filling:
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
2 green onions, chopped
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 teaspoon grated ginger
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
To make the dough, combine the flour, water, and salt in a large bowl and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, then cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
2. Make the Filling
In a separate bowl, mix together the ground pork, cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, five-spice powder, and black pepper until well combined.
3. Assemble the Dumplings
Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it is about 1/8 inch thick. Use a round cookie cutter or a small glass to cut out circles of dough.
Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Wet the edges of the dough with water, then fold the dough in half and seal the edges, making sure there are no air pockets.
4. Boil the Dumplings
Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully drop in the dumplings, making sure they do not stick together. Stir gently and let them cook for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
Using a slotted spoon, remove the dumplings from the water and drain them in a colander.
5. Serve and Enjoy
Your Chinese boiled dumplings are now ready to be served! You can enjoy them as is, or pair them with your favorite dipping sauce. They also make a great addition to soups or stir-fry dishes.
