Ingredients

For the Cupcakes:

• 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 large egg
• 1 cup buttermilk
• Orange food coloring

For the Frosting:

• 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 3 cups powdered sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream
• Black food coloring

For the Decorations:

• 1 package of chocolate sandwich cookies
• 1 package of black licorice
• 1 package of candy eyeballs

Instructions

1. Cupcakes: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter, vanilla extract, egg, and buttermilk.
4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
5. Add a few drops of orange food coloring to the batter and mix until you achieve your desired color.
6. Scoop the batter into the cupcake liners, filling them about 2/3 of the way full.
7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
8. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
9. Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth.
10. Add in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream, and mix until well combined and smooth.
11. Add a few drops of black food coloring to the frosting and mix until you achieve a dark grey color.
12. Frost the cooled cupcakes, using a piping bag or a knife.
13. Decorations: Twist apart the chocolate sandwich cookies and remove the frosting.
14. Cut the black licorice into small pieces and stick them into the frosting to create legs for the spiders.
15. Place two candy eyeballs onto each cupcake.
16. Take the chocolate cookie halves and place them into the frosting, on either side of the eyeballs, to create the spider's body.
17. Repeat for all cupcakes and enjoy your spooky spider cupcakes!
